How long did it take Jack to run the full half mile?

Jack and Jill went up the hill,
  To fetch a pail of water;
Jack fell down, and broke his crown,
  And Jill came tumbling after.

Then up Jack got and off did trot,
  As fast as he could caper,
To old Dame Dob, who patched his nob
  With vinegar and brown paper.

Here is a pretty puzzle from Mother Goose.  Jack and Jill
raced up and down a hill that was 440 yards from bottom
to top.  Jack got to the top first, immediately started
down, and met Jill 20 yards from the top.  He beat Jill
to the bottom of the hill by half a minute.

The record of the race is complicated by the fact that
both runners were able to run downhill one-half again
faster than they ran up.  The puzzle is to figure out
how long it took Jack to run the full half mile of 880
yards.
