THIS WEEKS CONTEST TEASER "Puzzle #66"

What is the missing number in the circle?

                  THE SOLUTION

                   The missing number is 14.

Pick any piece of the pie and look directly opposite that piece: the larger of the two numbers is 3 times the smaller number minus 1.

5 and 14 work, but so do 2 and 5.  Two solutions, but the “official” solution only mentions one of them.

I was looking for other reasons, like maybe they alternated the “n” and “3n -1” in the pie pieces, or maybe the top half would be ‘n’ and the bottom half ‘3n – 1’.  I couldn’t find anything like that, so I looked up the answer.

(5 * 3) – 1 = 14 ; (2 * 3) – 1 = 5   Or have I gone brain dead?

Jack

You are right Jack.  Their answer is incomplete.
