Since 1993, the 8,700 people living in the village of
Inakadate, Japan have planted fields with plant four
different varieties of rice to form pictures.  Each
year, 150,000 visitors come to Inakadate to see this
art agricultural artistry.

A Sengoku warrior on horseback has been created from
hundreds of thousands of rice plants, the colors
created by using different varieties.

The enormous pictures of Napoleon and a Sengoku-period
warrior, both on horseback, are visible in a pair of
fields adjacent to the town hall.

It’s a pity these pictures only last as long as
the next harvest the rice.

May across huge swathes of paddy fields.
