Homer Simpson Votes in 2008 And 2012
From: RDobry on 9/23/2012 (S820d)
|
 |
Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homer_Simpson
Homer Jay Simpson is the fictional
main character that
appears in the animated television
series The Simpsons.
The series first appeared on
television on The Tracey
Ullman Show short "Good Night"
on April 19, 1987. Homer
is one of the most influential
fictional characters on
television, having been described
by the British news-
paper The Sunday Times as "the
greatest comic creation
of [modern] time". He
was named the greatest fictional
character "of the last 20 years"
in 2010 by Entertainment
Weekly. His voice is done
by Dan Castellaneta.
In these two video clips, Homer
attempts to vote in
2008 and then in 2012.
There is a lot of subtle humor
in the words and the background
graphic of these two
clips. Pay attention or
you will miss out.

Subj: Little
Girl Wants To Be The President (S807)
From: rfslick on 6/26/2012
Recently, while I was working
in the front yard, my neighbor
and her daughter stopped to
chat as they returned home from
walking their dog. During
our friendly conversation, I asked
her little girl what she wanted
to be when she grows up.
She said she wanted to be President
some day.
Her mother, a liberal Democrat,
stood there while I asked her,
"If you were President what
would be the first thing you would
do?"
She replied... "I'd give food
and houses to all the homeless
people." Her mother beamed with
pride!
"Wow... what a worthy goal!"
I said, "but you don't have to
wait until you're President
to do that!"
"What do you mean?" she asked.
I told her, "You can come to
my house and mow the lawn, pull
weeds, and trim my bushes, and
I'll pay you $50. Then you can
go over to the grocery store
where the homeless guy hangs out,
and you can give him the $50
to use toward food and a new house."
She thought that over for a few
seconds, then she looked me
straight in the eye and asked,
"Why doesn't the homeless guy
come over and do the work, and
you can just pay him the $50?"
I said, "Welcome to the Republican
Party."
Her mother isn't speaking to
me.

Two Glenn Beck Speeches At the 2010 CPAC Convention (S684b)
From: HuffingtonPost.com on 2/23/2010
and
From: TheDailyShow.com |
.
Through the thirteen years that
I have sent out "The Sunday
Morning Laughs", eleven people
have asked me to stop sending
them these emails. One
was for content, and ten have been
for my politics. Five
thought I leaned too far to the left,
and five thought I leaned too
far to the right. Let's see if
I can alienate both sides with
the same item.
The "Grand Old Party" held their,
annual Conservative Political
Action Comference, CPAC, this
year at the Marriott Wardman
Park Hotel in Washington DC.
Bombastic conservative talk show
host Glenn Beck closed a three-day
conservative conference on
Saturday by demanding that Republicans
get their own house in
order before re-trying their
hand at governance. He also gave
a talk where he defined "Progressivism".
I loved his closing keynote speech,
here it is.

The World's Smallest Political Quiz (S655)
From: jcary
on 7/27/2009 |
 |
Source: http://www.theadvocates.org/quizp/index.html
So, you think you know where
you stand, politically. Think
again. The results from
this short test may surprise you
and give you some food for thought.
You'll be asked just 10 questions,
and then it instantly
tells you where you stand politically.
It shows your
position as a red dot on a "political
map" so you'll see
exactly where you score.
The most interesting thing about
the Quiz is that it goes
beyond the Democrat, Republican,
and Independent.
The Quiz has gotten a lot of
praise. The Washington Post
said it has "gained respect
as a valid measure of a person's
political leanings."
The Fraser Institute said it's
"a fast, fun, and accurate
assessment of a person's overall
political views." Suite
University said it is the "most
concise and accurate
political quiz out there."

Subj: ABC
News Bans Flag Lapel Pins (S613)
From: aldavito on 10/6/2008
Source: http://www.snopes.com/rumors/noflags.asp
After the 9/11 terrorist attack,
ABC News has asked its
staff not to wear American flag
pins in their lapels, or
even red, white and blue ribbons,
in an effort to protect
their credibility as objective
sources.
"We cannot signal through outward
symbols how we feel,
even if the cause is justified,"
said ABC spokesman Jeffrey
Schneider. "Overseas,
it could be perceived that we're
just mouthpieces for the U.S.
government, and that can
place our journalists in danger."
Since when is support for preventing
our death ? destruction
some sort of a "cause"?
Since when is patriotism to be
discouraged. We're slowly
losing everything our country
stands for, and everything our
men and women fought and died
to preserve. I urge
you to boycott ABC and its sponsors
and affiliates.

On Jan. 14,2011 on PBS NewsHour,
Mark Shields, an American
political columnist and commentator,
said the following:
"There was one observation that
was made this week I just have
to pass on to you by a friend
of mine, Allen Ginsberg, who is
an historian up in Maine.
And he said, this week, we saw a
white, Catholic, Republican
federal judge murdered on his way
to greet a Democratic woman,
member of Congress, who was his
friend and was Jewish.
Her life was saved initially by a 20-
year-old Mexican-American college
student, who saved her, and
eventually by a Korean-American
combat surgeon... And then it
was all eulogized and explained
by our African-American president.
And, in a tragic event, that's
a remarkable statement about the
country." To see the original

Subj: Early
Public Opinion Polls (S659b)
From: ICohen on 8/27/2009
Early politicians required feedback
from the public to
determine what the people considered
important. Since
there were no telephones, TV's
or radios, the politicians
sent their assistants to local
taverns, pubs, and bars.
They were told to 'go sip some
ale' and listen to people's
conversations and political
concerns. Many assistants
were dispatched at different
times. 'You go sip here'
and 'You go sip there.'
The two words 'go sip' were
eventually combined when referring
to the local opinion
and, thus we have the term 'gossip.'
This is a good story, but it
is another urban legend as
verified at http://www.word-detective.com/060704.html.
